NEW Emergency Room Opens

Summersville Memorial Hospital opens its new 18 bed Emergency Department. The layout and processes should result in a continued improvement of care and throughput time. High traffic through an Emergency Department can impede care, create security risks and compromise confidentiality. The new Emergency Department will generally allow only one care partner to go back into the Emergency Department with each patient during treatment. Exceptions may be made as a physician deems necessary.

The larger waiting area outside the Emergency Department will allow additional friends and family a close, comfortable place to wait. Care partners may alternate. In addition, a phone will be available in the waiting area to allow family to check the condition of loved ones. This is a transition from the current traffic pattern, but the desire and design is to increase quality, security and timeliness of care.
